William Lunch was a slave owner in the West Indies and was considered to be very good at it. In 1712, in a city called Virginia slave owners failed at controlling slaves.
Due to this, there has been an increase in the slave revolts which put slave masters to unease. Since Willie Lynch was good at controlling slaves, he was asked to deliver a speech on his methods of controlling the blacks to his fellow slave masters in the city Virginia.

It is recorded that Lynch stood at the banks of the James River in Virginai to deliver a speech which could slove their problem of enslaving the blacks. It is believed that the letter is mostly the contents that William Lynch deliverd in his speech and the methods that he used to enslave the blacks successfully.
In the speech he said that his method is a foolproof method that if implemented correctly, he can ensure that the slaves can be controlled for more than 300 years easily.
According to Willie Lynch, he method of controlling the salves was to set one slave against another and taking advantage of the conflict between them to inflict distrust and fear. The starting part of Lynch’s speech read “I have outlined a number of differences among the slaves and I take these differences and make them bigger.

I use fear, distrust and envy for control purposes. These methods have worked on my modest plantation in the West Indies and it will work throughout the South”. He further added that he achieved inflicting distrust, fear and envy using the factors like age, color and gender of slaves.
He further added that they require white servants and overseers who hate and distrusts all the black slaves. They must set one slave with another and make sure that they distrusts each other.
The most important part of the speech read “But it is necessary that your slaves trust and depend on us. They must love, respect and trust only us. Gentlemen, these kits are our keys to control.

This was Lynch’s method of controlling the salves. There is much more to it and Lynch’s explained detailed on what to do and how to do. The content of the letter is disturbing and controversial.
The full text of the letter was published into a book named The Making of the salve sometime in 1970’s and then gained recognition, before that people hardly knew that letter existed.
Many believe that the letter doesn’t actually exist, because not much information is available on it and no proof of the method that was employed and became successful. Either the letter is true or false the letter serves as a reminder of the atrocities of slavery and racism towards blacks.
